Present – Focused

CBT & Solution-Focused Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy focus on the “here and now.” These methods examine how your thoughts affect your feelings and give you practical strategies to handle anxiety, depression, or stress today — not years from now.

What to expect in CBT sessions

Sessions are structured and goal-oriented. You’ll identify negative thought patterns, learn to challenge them, and build concrete coping strategies. Expect homework between sessions — journaling, behavioral experiments, or mindfulness exercises.

Good fit if:  you want practical tools and homework you can use between sessions. You prefer structure over open-ended conversation.

EMDR & Trauma-Informed Therapy

Sometimes talking isn’t enough. When difficult experiences stay “stuck,” your brain holds onto them in ways that keep triggering pain. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain reprocess those memories so they lose their emotional charge.

What to expect in EMDR sessions

EMDR uses guided eye movements or bilateral stimulation while you briefly focus on a traumatic memory. It’s evidence-based, gentle, and doesn’t require you to relive every detail of what happened. Most people notice relief within 6–12 sessions.

Good fit if: you’ve been through something painful and feel stuck in the past. Traditional talk therapy hasn’t fully resolved it.

Skills-Based

DBT: Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT teaches skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now widely used for anyone struggling with intense emotions.

What to expect in DBT sessions

Highly structured sessions focused on building specific skills. You’ll learn techniques for riding out emotional crises without making things worse, staying present, and communicating your needs effectively in relationships.

Good fit if: your emotions feel overwhelming or out of control and you want concrete, repeatable coping strategies.

Systemic & Gottman Method

You don’t exist in a vacuum. Systemic therapy examines how your relationships, family dynamics, and social systems shape how you feel. Gottman Method is a research-backed approach to couples therapy built on decades of studying what makes relationships succeed or fail.

What to expect in relational sessions

Couples work together with a therapist to build friendship, manage conflict constructively, and create shared meaning. Family-focused sessions explore roles and patterns that developed over years. The goal is healthier dynamics, not assigning blame.

Good fit if: you want to understand the patterns in your relationships and build stronger, healthier connections with your partner or family.

Affirming Space

Person-Centered & Play Therapy

Client-centered therapy follows your lead in a space free of judgment. It’s especially valuable for identity exploration and LGBTQIA+ affirming care. Play therapy extends this philosophy to children ages 3–11, using creative expression to process emotions and experiences words can’t yet reach.

What to expect in person-centered sessions

Adults: your therapist creates a warm, non-directive environment where you set the pace. Children: trained play therapists use art, sand trays, puppets, and games as the “language” of therapy, helping kids process trauma, behavior challenges, and emotional struggles.

Good fit if: you need a space where you can be fully yourself without judgment, or you’re seeking therapy for a child who can’t yet express their feelings verbally.

Your therapist will help you find the right blend of approaches for your goals.
