As of January 1, 2022, the Federal No Surprises Act (NSA) and the supplemental Texas Surprise Billing Law protects you from surprise billing if you have a group health plan or group or individual health insurance coverage. This federal law prohibits balance billing for out-of-network, self-pay, and uninsured patients from certain surprise medical bills.
You have a right to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of the expected costs of your care before the service. Please see the terms in the onboarding client paperwork.
If you believe you have received a surprise bill in violation of these laws, you can seek assistance:
- Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Consumer Help Line: 1-800-252-3439 or visit the TDI website for information on your rights under Texas law.
- No Surprises Help Desk (Federal): 1-800-985-3059 or visit the CMS website for information on your rights under federal law.
